My ipod has gone bonkers help please?

The volume on it is screwy (its an ipod touch) and if i set it on a lower setting it just moves it up to the highest volume and blasts my ears out or it flutters from high volume until all the way up and its annoying. It also won't sync any new songs, is there a way i can reset it or am i just ******?
