How come my phone is acting wierd?

ok i havnt been using my phone for the past week and when i checked it the last time i used it it was just fine but today when i went to turn it on the screen was screwy it was purple in some spots and when i tried to read my messages it would flip upside down and be blocked out by fuzziness does anyone know how to fix this or if i need to get a new phone
